A new chapter for BillyBird Drakenrijk

Start of construction of the Drakenrijk indoor playground
BillyBird Drakenrijk began construction of the indoor playground in early March 2025. This marks an important step in the BillyBird concept, which also includes indoor play. BillyBird is a chain of amusement parks where nature and recreation blend seamlessly. BillyBird aims to extend the successful concept of BillyBird Hemelrijk in Volkel (Brabant) to BillyBird Drakenrijk in Beesel (Limburg). This means visitors can stay active and have fun in any weather. Guests can enjoy the beach in warm weather, play on the outdoor attractions in good weather, and play indoors in bad weather.
2024
A warm welcome to BillyBird Hemelrijk

New entrance Hemelrijk
BillyBird Hemelrijk has had a new entrance since June 2024. Work on the new building began at the end of September 2023. Visitors had to navigate through construction fencing to reach the old reception area during this time. A reception area and a distribution area were also constructed at the same time, requiring frequent route changes. Visitors can now access both the Oervallei play area and the beach pool after entering.
The observant will notice a subtle change to the logo on the new building. The chain has chosen to omit the word "park" and display the word "BillyBird" larger than the name of the location, "Hemelrijk."
2023
Major steps forward at Drakenrijk

Floating solar park
At Billy Bird Park Drakenrijk in Reuver, work is underway on a floating solar panel farm. The panels will generate enough power to supply approximately 2,600 households. The solar farm will be built on one of the park's lakes. A total of 12,896 panels will be installed on the water.

Bouncenet BillyBird Drakenrijk
A new playground equipment is being added to BillyBird Drakenrijk. This Bouncenet is a great place to bounce and burn off some energy.

Opening of the Riddersheide play area
The largest Speelkasteel in the Netherlands has opened at BillyBird Drakenrijk. The Speelkasteel is 15 meters high and features slides and climbing nets. There's even a slide that goes down 12 meters.
The Speelkasteel was manufactured by AmusementProf. Atop the castle sits a life-size dragon created by Venlo native and designer Joop van den Heuvel.
The municipality of Beesel is known as the Dragon Village. The tradition of "Draaksteken" (dragon-stitching) has taken place here for approximately 300 years. Every seven years, Beesel celebrates this ancient legend. This year, the dragon is a reference to the municipality of Beesel.
The Speelkasteel is a real eye-catcher in the park and can even be seen from the highway.
A "making of" (YouTube series) has been created to document the entire construction process.
With lighting and smoke effects, BillyBird creates a fully themed play structure, and of course, that includes music. For the first time, BillyBird is collaborating with music producer EVRST MUSIC. The soundtrack will bring the medieval theme to life and complete the whole experience.

Anniversary & new attraction

Opening SaltoSwing
BillyBird Hemelrijk opens the 11-meter-high SaltoSwing swing. The SaltoSwing is part of the Ruig play area, which opened last year. Walking makes the barrel spin, allowing you to control your speed. The SaltoSwing is designed for children aged 8 and up.
The swing was developed by AmusementProf, the design and construction company of BillyBird brothers Paul and Herman Derks.

BillyBird is turning 35! Let's celebrate!
BillyBird is celebrating its 35th anniversary this May and is always looking for new locations and opportunities where nature and recreation can converge and bonds between family and friends can be strengthened. Ideas are always welcome.
2020
A year full of surprises

Largest AquaFun Park in the Netherlands
2020 is the year of the coronavirus pandemic and challenges, but also the year BillyBird looks ahead to the future and grows. For example, BillyBird Hemelrijk is opening the largest AquaFunPark in the Netherlands, and BillyBird Drakenrijk is getting its first major attraction with a slightly smaller version.
In addition, Hemelrijk is opening a brand new play area, Ruig! (Rough!), and BillyBird Swimming Pool Het Run is getting a new food and beverage outlet, the Broodjeshoek (Bread Corner), with healthy, freshly made sandwiches. BillyBird has announced that it is already working on plans for a new recreation park in Drunen, BillyBird Park Duinenrijk.
2019
A third park & many expansions

The Drakenrijk playground gets a balloon monorail
A monorail will be added to the playground at BillyBird Drakenrijk. The monorail will be called "Ballonvaart." Ballonvaart is the first real attraction at BillyBird Drakenrijk.

Opening BillyBird Swimming Pool Het Run
BillyBird is expanding its operations to a brand new location in Drunen. In May, the former Het Run open-air swimming pool will be operated by BillyBird and renamed BillyBird Het Run Swimming Pool.
Come and enjoy a day of splashing and swimming with the whole family. Take a dip in the 50-meter competition pool or splash around in the recreational pool. This pool features a fantastic water playground and a spectacular slide. For the littlest ones, we have a well-organized toddler pool where they can play to their heart's content.

The Oervallei at Hemelrijk and the outdoor playground Drakenrijk
In 2019, the Oervallei nature playground at BillyBird Hemelrijk will open. Children can swing on a giant swing, slide down an 11-meter-high slide, pan for gold, and search for dinosaur bones. The beach promenade will be extended to the Splash boat slide and to the Oervallei, meaning the entire park will no longer have unpaved paths.
BillyBird Drakenrijk will also expand this year. Where the park initially only had a beach, an outdoor playground will now open there. In this outdoor playground, you can discover life-size dragons and ride a super-long zipline. Climb the lookout tower or go panning for gold.
2018
AmusementProf develops themed attraction

New! The Ballenfabriek
In 2018, BillyBird Hemelrijk will open a themed attraction, the Ballenfabriek, designed by AmusementProf, and the red carpet will be extended to Kinderland.

2016
Red carpet is a fact

BillyBird Hemelrijk is developing a beach boulevard
A new beach promenade is being constructed, a red carpet that starts at the park reception and extends to the Zeeroversland indoor playground. This construction has created a larger lawn with some shade. Several sun terraces are also being built along the red carpet, where you can enjoy the sun and a snack and drink on a beach bed or lounge sofa.
2015
The Kinderkermis will have more shelter options

Renovation of the Kinderkermis and Catering
During the winter and spring of 2015, the Kinderkermis fairground was partially demolished because this somewhat outdated play area was in dire need of replacement. Several trusses from the former Kinderkermis fairground remain. These now create two beautiful shelters. One shelter covers the bumper cars and several other attractions. The other shelter can be used for various purposes. For example, guests can enjoy a picnic there, or the entertainment team can perform there during extra activities.
The catering building at Zeeroversland is also being renovated. The dated old brown has made way for fresh colors. The catering products have also been slightly modified and improved.
2014
Indoor playground Zeeroversland is being renovated

The Piratenkooi is opened
On May 29, 2014, the Piratenkooi opened in the Zeeroversland indoor playground. A gigantic play paradise with a bouncy castle, slides, climbing frames, colorful building blocks, and a renovated play area for the littlest ones.
2013
Opening of BillyBird's second location

BillyBird Drakenrijk opens as second location
On May 25, 2013, BillyBird Drakenrijk in Beesel (Limburg) will open its gates to the public. From then on, beachgoers, sunbathers, and children will be welcome from May through August. The plan is for the current beach to eventually expand into a fully-fledged BillyBird Park. This means adding at least one indoor playground and several outdoor attractions.
2012
Expansion of play areas

BillyBird Hemelrijk expands outdoor play areas
The outdoor playground will be twice as large, fenced off, and will be called "Kinderland" from now on. Two new air trampolines and two new bouncy castles will be added, and no fewer than fifty BBQs will be installed in Kinderland. The BBQs and the 3-meter-high air trampoline are unique in the Netherlands. This year, BillyBird is also introducing the new slogan "Happy Together!"
2011
Party!

BillyBird Hemelrijk celebrates its 25th anniversary
BillyBird Hemelrijk is celebrating its 25th anniversary! This is being celebrated extensively, including the release of a brand-new BillyBird picture book: "The Treasure of Hemelrijk." A special BillyBird anniversary newspaper will also be distributed door-to-door in Oss, Uden, and Veghel at the end of April. During the "Vreemde Vogelweek" (Weird Bird Week), an employee reunion, and a special anniversary weekend, staff and guests will once again be celebrating the 25th anniversary.
2009
A new favorite is being built

BillyBird Hemelrijk opens family roller coaster
New: a super-fast family roller coaster. An absolute highlight for BillyBird Hemelrijk. The coaster is energy-neutral, powered by solar energy.
2004
Construction of Hemelaya and new name BillyBird

Climb the Hemelaya climbing mountain
Hemelrijk's biggest landmark, Hemelaya, is a 15-meter-high climbing mountain. Various routes allow you to climb to the top for breathtaking views of the park. There's also an easy walk to the top for fun with parents and grandparents. Three slides are hidden in the rock that will take you back down.
Hemelrijk is getting a new name. Hemelrijk Recreation Park is being renamed BillyBird Hemelrijk.
2002
A full-fledged parking lot plus a real attraction

The first major attraction opens
In 2002, Recreation Park Hemelrijk received a full-fledged parking lot and opened the park's first major attraction: the Splash boat slide!
2000
Affordable for everyone

Open in any weather
In 2000, Hemelrijk opened several large play structures, which were almost entirely new attractions. Bungee trampolines were added, and construction began on the Outback Survival: a custom-designed ropes course unique in Europe. Everyone was enthusiastic, and with the arrival of this major attraction, Hemelrijk continued its expansion. It became a park that was affordable for everyone and offered entertainment every day, whatever the weather.
1995
Expansion with second playground

Zeeroversland is being built
In 1995, a second indoor playground, Zeeroversland, was built. While the current indoor playground, Zeeroversland, is now filled with all kinds of play equipment for children up to 12 years old, the playground at the time consisted essentially of nothing more than a large, covered slide.
1993
The first playground is a fact

Opening of the Verkeersspeeltuin
On July 11, 1993, Hemelrijk Recreational Lake expanded with an outdoor playground and a traffic playground, and that same year, construction began on the Children's Fair. At the time, Hemelrijk Recreational Lake wanted to develop into a Family Entertainment Center but encountered zoning plan issues. To still offer indoor fun, a bouncy castle, a merry-go-round, a ball pit, and several fun wheels were installed in a former chicken coop. A resounding success.
1990
Expansion of the area

Catering pavilion with toilets
Gerrie and Ton moved to the recreational lake and bought a total of 50 hectares of land around it. In 1991, they built the coffee shop: a new restaurant pavilion with restrooms, which even passersby could use without a ticket. The coffee shop building later served as both a reception and a restaurant sales point.
1986
From dream to reality

Hemelrijk Recreational Lake
Ton and Gerrie start beach pool 'Recreatieplas Hemelrijk'. At BillyBird from the start recreation and nature will go hand in hand. This will result in building the first artificial oeverzwaluwwand in the Netherlands in their opening year.
